Stewardship

"Each one should give just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or
under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."

II Corinthians 9:7

When we think of stewardship we think of giving to the church but the word stewardship means more than that. Stewardship is a church word for "asset management."

Stewardship is about how we manage not only our money but all the resources God has provided for us. At Emmanuel, we believe that we should be good managers, or stewards, of what God has entrusted to our management.

We believe that the management of our finances is important because there are over 800 verses in the Bible dealing with money and because money management (or the lack of it) affects all of our relationships -- our relationships with our spouses, our families, our church and our relationship with God.

We provide financial management classes and one-on-one financial counseling to equip our members to manage the finances that God has entrusted to them.

The specific amount that you give to the church is between you and God. Although we do not require tithing, the Old Testament teaches tithing -- giving 10% of our income to support the church. For some of us that is a good starting point. But most importantly, the Bible teaches that whatever we give should be out of a cheerful heart because God loves a "cheerful giver." Our love for Christ and gratitude to Him is what prompts us to give.

Much time, prayer, work, and money goes into expanding Emmanuel's ministry of grace. We ask you to prayerfully consider what the Lord would have you and your family give to our annual budget, to Project Jubilee and to worthy mission projects supported by Emmanuel. Together we can expand Emmanuel's ministry of grace in the twenty-first century.
