The Cross of Christ
My Faith Is in Him

Genesis77.mp3 (13.6 MB)

Genesis 22:14-19 (KJV)
  1. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
  2. And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
  3. And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
  4. That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
  5. And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
  6. So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

My Faith Is in Him
Genesis 22:14-19

In our text we come across one of the most unique names for God in Scripture. Names, particularly in Scripture, are descriptions of character. To know God well is to know Him as He reveals Himself in His names. Here God is revealed to us as Jehovah Jireh. This is sometimes translated "The Lord will see" or "The Lord will provide." Which is it? Both. God's pre-vision becomes God's provision. Unlike us, God sees a need and provides for it. When a person's faith is in God he should be able to say confidently, "God will see to it."

  1. Our faith in God is proportional to our belief in His power over all things.
    Some have a hard time believing God can control events, sinners, the future, etc. . . But the Bible says that "Abraham accounted that God was able to raise Isaac from the dead" (Hebrews 11:19). When Isaac asked, "Where is the lamb?" (v.7), Abraham replied, "God will see to it" (v.8). Even if that meant Isaac would die. It is clear that Abraham saw his son as already dead for "he received him in a figure" (Hebrews 11:19).
  2. Our faith in God is proportional to our belief that His purpose is ultimately best.
    When I use the term "best," I am not thinking in terms of God -- it is best for His kids. It is best in terms of your ultimate character. It is best in terms of your ultimate good. It is best in terms of your ultimate pleasure. God works all things out for His glory. God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him. God will see to it.
    1. Your faith can't be in your understanding . . . for there will sometimes be terrible pain when you will question the good. This is where faith steps in.
    2. Your faith can't be in other people . . . Relationships are great. Friendships are blessings. Marriage is great! But no person, no friend, can take God's place. He must be the center of your affection.
    3. Your faith can't be in you circumstances . . . "Man, who is born of woman, is short-lived and full of turmoil" (Job 14:1).
  3. Our faith in God is proportional to our belief that His principles bring blessing.
    God did provide the sacrifice that was needed, and a ram took Isaac's place on the altar (Genesis 22:13). Abraham discovered a new name for God -- "Jehovah-Jireh" -- "In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen" helps us understand God's provision.
    Follow the Lord's bidding -- He will see to it that you will not be ashamed or confounded.
    If you suffer loss -- God will see to it that your loss shall be recompensed.
    If your path has obstacles -- Jehovah will see to it that the road shall be cleared.
    If you experience pain -- The Lord will see to it that the pain transforms into pleasure.
    The saints should never be dismay'd, nor sink in hopeless fear;
    For when they lease expect His aid, the Saviour will appear.
    Wait for His seasonable aid, and though it tarry, wait;
    The promise may be long delay'd, but it cannot come too late.
