83 charter members worship under the trees at 2505 W. Garriott Road. |

C. Mac Roark called as pastor in November. |

1962
Groundbreaking for the first sanctuary begins with $100,000 commitment to provide worship
service for 300+ members. |

1964
Facilities added for Sunday School and a nursery. Attendance increases by 200 a year.
1965
Property west of church purchased for $40,000 and members donate trading stamps to
purchase a church bus.

1968-72
Membership rises to over 630 under the leadership of Bobby Sunderland, pastor. |

1969
Work underway to build a Fellowship Hall and more Sunday School classrooms as membership
shoots up to 800.

1973
Dr. Joe Stith takes over the pastorate for Emmanuel and immediately recognizes the
ten-year-old building is already bursting at the seams.

1975
With membership rapidly approaching 1,000, a second, larger sanctuary is completed.

Pastor
James Reimer baptizes 303 new converts and adds 444 new members by transfer of
membership.

1979
Building begins for more Sunday School rooms and classrooms for the Christian School under
the urgings of new pastor, Hayes Wicker. Dan Heath joins the church as Minister of
Music. |

1981
Emmanuel Christian School opens with 105 pupils in grades K-6.
|
|
1986
Gary Smith becomes pastor at Emmanuel and urges facility expansion for both church and
school needs. Fundraising campaign begins to link the Education Building with the Fellowship
Hall and provide additional facilities.

1992
Pastor Wade Burleson begins his ministry at Emmanuel. Increased the capacity of the present
worship center to 1,350. Church membership continues to swell. |

1993
Added multi-purpose space with gymnasium and built new kitchen facilities.
